An Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan is individualized to meet the unique needs of a student with a disability.  For many the key to success is having appropriate adaptations, accommodations, and/or modifications made to meet their individual needs in accessing the general education curriculum. This training will provide parents with an overview of the differences between accommodations and modification and will also help guide parents in understanding what is appropriate in the school setting.

Transition Planning: Getting Started @ ARC Herkimer

Post-Secondary Transition is planning and preparing for one’s future after high school while still in school. In this workshop, you will learn about the transition process for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).  You will also learn the answers to the following questions and more:

  • What does Post-Secondary Transition mean?
  • When should planning begin for transition from school to the adult world?
  • Who is involved in the transition process?
  • What does transition planning look like in the IEP?

This training is open to all families that want to learn about transition planning for students with IEPs and is highly recommended for families of students in Middle School and High School.

FAMILY CONNECTIONS: MEANINGFUL ENGAGEMENT IN THE SPECIAL EDUCATION PROCESS

A Special Series for Parents and Family Members Hosted by Baldwinsville Central Schools and Open to Parents of all School Districts

All parents and family members can and should have meaningful participation in their children’s education, especially when the child receives special education supports and services. Effectively communicating and collaborating with the school team is essential to improved outcomes for students with disabilities. Baldwinsville Central Schools is pleased to host this four-part Family Engagement Series present by SUPAC-Syracuse University Parent Assistance Center.  Each session will provide strategies and information to build upon the next in helping families to navigate and participate in the Special Education Process for their children!

SESSION 4: Getting Organized: Preparing for Your CSE Meetings

This make and take workshop provides parents with the tools necessary to effectively and proactively prepare for the school year and beyond. “Getting Organized” will encourage parents to work collaboratively with their school team, organize their records, learn what records to keep, and what to put in writing.

A Special Education binder will be provided at this training. Be sure to bring a picture of your child, work samples, IEP, progress reports, and any additional items you want to include in your binder.

This training will also cover strategies for Preparing for Your Child’s CSE Annual Review

  • Tips on preparing for child’s Committee on Special Education (CSE) meeting
  • Discuss the purpose of the CSE meeting
  • Roles and responsibilities of CSE members
  • Important documentation you should have
  • What kinds of questions to ask at a CSE meeting
  • How to collaborate with CSE team members
