A Special Series for Parents/Guardians and Family Members
Open to Parents of All School Districts
Session 1: Parents Rights and Responsibilities within the Special Education Process
What is the parent’s role in the special education process?
- To be fully informed
- To be an active member of the CSE Team
- To be an effective communicator
- To have full access to all school records (FERPA)
- And more…..
This training will teach you the basics of your rights and responsibilities and your role as a parent in the special education process.
All parents, family members, and guardians can and should have meaningful participation in their children’s education, especially when the child receives special education supports and services. Effectively communicating and collaborating with the school team is essential to improved outcomes for students with disabilities. Finger Lakes Independence Center-FLIC is pleased to host this three-part Family Connections Series presented by Syracuse University Parent Assistance Center–SUPAC. Each session will provide strategies and information to build upon the next in helping families to navigate and participate in the Special Education Process for their children!
